After releasing a teaser and the official poster yesterday, Warner Bros has now released the official full trailer for Lin Manuel Miranda’s highly anticipated “In the Heights.” The upcoming film is directed by Jon M. Chu, written by Quiara Alegría Hudes, and based on the Broadway musical of the same name by Hudes and Lin-Manuel Miranda.  Miranda first debuted the musical during a 2005 tryout in Waterford, Connecticut followed by a 2007 Off-Broadway run. The show opened on Broadway in March 2008. It was nominated for thirteen Tony Awards and won four. The musical takes place in the New York neighborhood of Washington Heights. The story is set over the course of three days, involving characters in the largely Hispanic-American neighborhood. “In the Heights” was filmed in New York, primarily on location in the dynamic community of Washington Heights. The film is slated for release on June 26, 2020, it will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.

Although Lin-Manuel Miranda will not portray his original role in the play, Usnavi, he will still appear in the film as Piragüero. The film also stars Dasha Polanco as Cuca, Stephanie Beatriz as Carla, JImmy Smits as Kevin Rosario, Anthony Ramos as Usnavi, Corey Hawkins as Benny, Melissa Barrera as Vanessa, and Marc Anthony. The film features an entire Latino cast and includes original Broadway cast members like Olga Merediz reprising their roles.

At the intersection of it all is the likeable, magnetic bodega owner Usnavi (Anthony Ramos), who saves every penny from his daily grind as he hopes, imagines and sings about a better life.
