Rockwell Table and Stage in Los Angeles hosts “Scissorhands” from December 6-January 5th, it’s must-see entertainment for theater adorers to attend. The experience of dining as performers dash through the venue, singing classics like The Beatles’ ‘I Want to Hold Your Hand’, and continuously critique suburbia is the live show that is destined to get the endorphins pumping! Directed by Bradley Bredeweg, the musical does an excellent job of producing the rich story-telling aspect of the film while using music to drive home key points that contribute to the overall theme. Cleverly, the song list connects with the audience through a variety of genres. From grunge and alternative to pop and traditional, the diversity of music allows for an engaged crowd from all socially constructed categories.

Bursts of talent are displayed throughout; the dynamic cast delivers a captivating show. Though each cast member is skilled, there are standout performances from Jordan Kai Burnett, Dionne Gipson, Emma Hunton, and Natalie Masini. Scissorhands, to the credit of the creative team, is an implied metaphor for not feeling comfortable in one’s own body or social setting. After all, haven’t we all felt like outcasts at some point in our life? The dark-fantasy tale is fascinatingly human, and with the addition of dynamite musical performances, spectators are sure to find enjoyment and empathy for Scissorhands and folks who identify with the moral. For tickets go to http://rockwell-la.com/

About: They’ve taken on ’90s film faves like Scream, Cruel Intentions and Clueless. Now Rockwell: Table & Stage cuts into the absurdity of suburban life with Scissorhands: A Musical Inspired by the Film, a show that’s sure to delight fans of the original which starred Johnny Depp, Wynona Ryder, Dianne Wiest, and Alan Arkin. Based on Tim Burton’s modern fairy tale, in a new twist to the classic story, the story follows a synthetic creature with sharp blades for hands who charms an entire neighborhood of normies. You’ll appreciate the movie even more after seeing it reworked for the stage at Rockwell in Los Angeles. This year’s powerhouse cast includes Emma Hunton (GOOD TROUBLE, Elphaba on the National Tour of WICKED) as “Peg,” Tony Award-winner Daisy Eagan (GOOD TROUBLE) as “Esmeralda,” and Jordan Kai Burnett as Scissorhands. Other cast members include Natalie Masini as “Kim,” Ryan O’Connor as “Helen” and “Bill,” Carly Casey as “Joyce,” Keir Kirkegaard as “Jim,” and Dionne Gipson as “The Inventor.”
