WITH HIS 4-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER CHEERING HIM ON, JAKE HOOT BECOMES THE NEXT CHAMP OF “THE VOICE”
Congratulations to Jake Hoot and his coach Kelly Clarkson, for winning Season 17 of “The Voice!” Season 17 closed with a bang last Tuesday night with performances by former coach Jennifer Hudson, recording artists Black Eyed Peas, Luke Combs, Lady Antebellum, Dua Lipa and Season 16 winner Maelyn Jarmon. The final four contestants, Jake Hoot, Ricky Duran, Katie Kadan, and Rose Short also performed with chart-topping musicians, including Yolanda Adams, Gary Clark Jr., Adam Lambert and Little Big Town, who sang a duet with Hoot. The finale was a real nail biter with all four contestants being extremely talented. Katie Kadan, Rose Short, and Ricky Duran are all so uniquely talented. We can’t wait to see where their musical careers take them next!
Season 17’s finale was unique for many reasons. It was the first time in 7 seasons that all four coaches had an artist competing in the finale. It was also only the second time that a contestant that only turned one chair has won the singing competition. Jake Hoot, from Cookeville, Tenn., sung “When It Rains It Pours” by Luke Combs during his blind auditions. As a part of Team Kelly, Hoot proved that he deserved to be in the competition, winning his Battle Round with “Always on My Mind” by Willie Nelson and his Knockout Round with “Cover Me Up” by Jason Isbell. In the live Playoffs, Hoot was voted through by America after a pure country performance of “You Lie” by Reba McEntire. Hoot has continued to win America over with his strong vocals and his sincere and humble character.
On Monday night Hoot debuted his original single, “Better Off Without You,” which he wrote along with David Allan Pahanish. Clarkson joined Hoot on stage for a duet of “Wintersong” by Sarah McLachlan, and he performed a stunning rendition of Lonestar’s “Amazed.” During Tuesday’s finale, Hoot performed a special duet of “Over Drinking” with Little Big Town. As of Tuesday morning, Hoot had six songs in the Top 10 of the iTunes Country Singles chart. This is more than any other singer in the history of the show has had in the Top 10 at one time. Hoot’s win marks Coach Kelly Clarkson’s third “Voice” win on the four-time Emmy Award-winning musical competition series.
“THE VOICE” CONTINUES TO BRING IN TOP RANKINGS
During the current 2019-20 season to date, “The Voice” remains a top television draw, currently ranking as the season’s #1 most-watched alternative series with a “most current” average through the opening 12 weeks of the season of 9.6 million viewers for the Monday and Tuesday editions. “The Voice” audience has grown significantly with additional delayed viewing on digital and linear platforms. “The Voice” ran undefeated this season in adults 18-49 in both its Monday and Tuesday timeslots versus regular competition on the Big 4 networks. The Dec. 17 season finale, during which 31-year-old country artist Jake Hoot was crowned champion, averaged 8.7 million viewers in “live plus same day” Nielsens, to deliver NBC’s biggest audience in the Tuesday 9-11 p.m. timeslot in the past year.
Through the 2010s, “The Voice” has generated more than 562 billion gross viewer impressions, the most for a primetime series airing on a single network in the decade. This makes “The Voice” the most-watched primetime single-network entertainment show of the decade, according to viewership data from Nielsen Media Research.
