RLJE Films has just released one of the films featured at this year’s Screamfest, the stab-happy slasher flick Trick, on DVD, Blu-ray, and VOD. Trick is directed by Patrick Lussier who is known for many horror favorites including My Bloody Valentine, Drive Angry, and Dracula 2000. Lussier co-wrote Trick with long-time collaborator Todd Farmer (My Bloody Valentine, Drive Angry, Jason X). The film opens on a high school party on Halloween in 2015. Patrick “Trick” Weaver (Thom Niemann) is sitting in a group of teens playing a version of Spin the Bottle where a knife is used in a place of a bottle. “Trick” is not so happy with the outcome of Spin the Bottle, snaps, and massacres a bunch of his classmates. Trick is thought dead after Detective Mike Denver (Omar Epps) shoots him, although his body is never found. For the next few years, on every Halloween a massacre takes place. Detective Denver is convinced Trick is still alive and behind the killings. Denver goes on a mission to find and stop Trick once and for all.

Trick is a wickedly fun classic slasher flick with a modern twist and a body and stab count to please any horror aficionado. The cast is fleshed out with some much-loved horror icons along with some very talented horror new-comers. It is always a delight to see Tom Atkins on the big screen. Atkins is a true horror legend that has worked with the likes of John Carpenter and George Romero. The Fog, Halloween III, Creepshow, Escape from New York are just a few of the films he’s been in. Atkins is a blast to watch in Trick as the town grump that runs a diner along with a Halloween maze. Jamie Kennedy who has forever left his mark in horror as Randy Meeks in the Scream franchise is fantastic as Dr. Steven. Up-and-comer Kristina Reyes plays the heroine of the film, Cheryl Winston. She plays the role with the perfect amount of vulnerability mixed with an unabashed toughness. Aaron Dalla Villa stands out as Smooth Johnny. He is always a joy to watch. You might remember him from 2018’s indie hit Pledge where Dalla Villa received many accolades for his portrayal of Max.
