WE ( Dutch: Wij) is a film that revolves around a true event, following the trial of a murder of a young girl. However, this is not your typical murder mystery film. We know who the antagonists are. They are a couple of adventurous and curious band of friends, and the victim just so happened to be a part of this clique. We are quickly introduced to the main characters, four males and four females in an eager attempt to announce their reckless and promiscuous ways. This young group of kids have all summer long to spare, but they want to make it worthwhile.
We are promptly convinced that their intentions are frightful, in attempts to earn quick cash, these young kids begin to sell their bodies. They create their own X-rated website and even rent out a house to use as a prostitution hut.
When things begin to go sideways for them, just as we expected it would, they leave it to the head of the group to fix the problem. Thomas, the mastermind, with the ‘born rich, stay rich’ mentality will do just about anything to stay in the clear. When things spiral way out of hand, he convinces the rest of the group to blame the death of their dear friend on one of their clients. Mind you, her death was an accidental death in which the entire gang was involved.
Thomas devises a masterful plan that puts a powerful political figure at the center of an immense scandal, while surely keeping these kids out of trouble. Nonetheless, it is at the very end of the film that we are left wondering who was at blame? Was it wrong that the politician got framed for a murder that he did not commit? He was a dear client of theirs, so he was to blame for something. And was it wrong that the kids got away without any consequences? Was the death of a friend the consequence itself?
WE is a film that will have you raced with all sorts of emotions, it will expose you to teen corruption you did not even know existed. Although truly entertaining, this film is not shy of nudity, so be aware. This film is now available on AppleTV, Google Play, Vimeo, and Prime Video.
Synopsis: During one hot summer, eight privileged but bored suburban teens begin to pull a series of harmless pranks which quickly escalate into increasingly depraved games. Their descent from innocence to ruthless predators involves arson, prostitution, pornography, assault, and blackmail. Drenched in bared flesh and naked nihilism the film is reminiscent of the films of Harmony Korine, Larry Clark, and Lars von Trier.
